WOMEX 10 Networking Meetings & Presentations
Networking Breakfast

"WOMEX is the only chance I’ve got to meet my colleagues from my own country!"

We've heard it many times. Time at home is scarce and people are scattered. To help facilitate opportunities for these gatherings, we've set up WOMEX Networking Meetings where you control the agenda, you set the priorities.

From WOMEX Networking Meetings have grown numerous associations such as the Brazilian Independent Music Association (ABMI), the North American World Music Coalition etc. Now regions such as the Caribbean, Asian Pacific are taking advantage of the opportunity to sit down together to discuss local issues.

Nordic World- and Roots Music Network (NOVnet) Meeting

At WOMEX 2009 a vision for a Nordic network was presented and ideas brought forth, this year the network has been formed and a tour is planned this fall with Becaye Awe! The network is at present made up of four members: Klaverfabrikken and Global Copenhagen in Denmark, Global Oslo Music in Norway  and Södra Teatern in Sweden, but is hoping by early spring 2011 to welcome new world music members.

The idea behind the network is not only to present more world music, but also to have the opportunity to have more world music tours in the north by cooperating together on a concrete and practical basis.
For more information please join us or email nordic@globalcph.dk

Thursday 16:15 – 17:15
Conference 3
Global Music Education in a Global Context:
The role of music education in promoting cultural diversity and innovation

Coordinated by William Ramsay (South Africa/Germany) and Andreas Freudenberg (Germany) from the Global Music Academy

This networking session will bring together music educators, musicians and administrators to discuss the future of music education in a globalised world. The role of music schools in preserving and promoting diversity of cultural expression, how to promote the development of innovative new teaching methods and curricula, the mutual recognition of music study programmes and the exchange of teachers and students around the world. Are we really preparing musicians for the diverse challenges they face in the 21st century? What skills do musicians need to have to be able to communicate with each other across borders? How do we create a system that will be able to document the world’s musical resources for use by future generations and at the same time stimulate innovation and communication between musicians from different cultural areas?

Friday 15:00 – 16:00
Conference 3
European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals (EFWMF) Networking Meeting
The global festival network meets for the second time @ WOMEX

At WOMEX 2009 the EFWMF organised a meeting with other festival networks. An informal presentation and exchange session resulted in an interesting meeting with various international colleagues. And these meetings carried on at AWME in Melbourne (Australia), the Mercado Cultural in Cartagena, (Colombia) and also at Babel Med in Marseille (France).

One year later we wish to continue this exchange and hope old participants come back with new info and that new participants join us.

The EFWMF is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2011 and will be present at WOMEX 2010 at stand 215 to 217.

Friday 16:00 – 17:45
Conference 3
The North American Networking Meeting

The North American contingent at WOMEX is a growing constituency and the continent is a fun playground if you like riding the waves of visa politics and confused identity. This facilitated networking session is an annual opportunity to check the pulse of the world music scene in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, while seeing old friends, matching faces with names, and meeting your favorite next world music lover.

Saturday 11:00 – 11:45
Conference 3
Meet the African Music Export Office BEMA

Coordinated by BEMA

Since 2007, operators in the African music industry have developed an independent network called African Music Export Office. BEMA was born out of the professional meetings organised by Africa Fete in Dakar, to bring together African professionals from West Africa. As an innovative platform, the main objective of this network is to promote and export African music both in Africa and throughout the world. Music professionals need to consolidate a Pan-African network, and to work on structuring projects combining production, promotion and vocational training. From this point of view, BEMA is a tool to provide support for the export of African music. Over the next year, the main project of BEMA is to produce an international music market in West Africa.

Saturday 12:00 – 13:00
Conference 3
Asian Pacific Networking Meeting: Exchange Practice and Ideas

Coordinated by Korea Arts Management Service and other international umbrella organisations.

The number of Asian Pacific participants is steadily increasing and now is the time to discover more about your own neighbourhood, introduce who you are, what you do, and what your aims are.

Come along and catch up with the latest trends in Asian Pacific music and the music business, and network with arts professionals. The meeting welcomes all WOMEXicans who come from the Asian Pacific area and of course all those who want to find out more about the Asian Pacific scene.
