Hjertelig velkommen!

In 15 years, WOMEX has grown from 200 to over 2,800 delegates, making it the most anticipated, productive and successful event of the world music year.

World Music Fair Copenhagen WOMEX '10 will be in Copenhagen, Denmark, and we are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with our Danish partners: Roskilde Festival, Copenhagen Jazzfestival, and tourist organisation Wonderful Copenhagen. Additional partners are events producers Welcome, the Danish Center for Culture and Development, Global CPH and World Music Denmark.

Copenhagen
Copenhagen
One thousand years of history
await you on the medieval streets of Copenhagen. These are the same streets walked on by every generation of the world's oldest royal family, the same streets and canals which have inspired artists for centuries and been home and workplace to meticulous craftsmen and famous designers.

From its humble origins as a fishing village to its heyday as the glittering capital of the Danish Empire to its current position as one of the world's premier design capitals, the stories and characters of Copenhagen's history can be discovered in its sumptuous palaces, copper-roofed town houses and atmospheric cobbled squares.

Copenhagen is a compact city and everything is close at hand. Local transportation is extensive cheap and easy to navigate. Most hotels, restaurants, sights and shops are within walking distance. There are countless attractions in the city of Copenhagen, which are worth a visit...

The city is also known for being especially bike-friendly: Over one third of its inhabitants cycle to work, university or school. Copenhagen has been listed among the top cities for quality of life (and other criteria) ...and the organic food market share is larger than in any other capital of the world.

Copenhagen is also a thriving musical centre with its own local and regional artists as well as its many venues catering to world music, jazz, rock, DJs and more.

... two minutes away from cosy restaurants, kebab shops, a supermarket, a bakery, even a liquor shop... You name it, we've got it.
... a ten-minute walk away from the city hall square and the famous Tivoli Gardens.
... three stations away from the central train station if you combine metro and S-train.
... fifteen minutes away from the airport if you take the metro M2.

Ninety years of history ...

Forum Copenhagen
The new WOMEX daytime location was built in the 1920s to host a dernier-cri car show. Since then it has accommodated markets and fairs from fresh fishes to books and concerts from Tokio Hotel to Leonard Cohen. During World War II the Danish resistance movement destroyed the hall in an act of sabotage. Before this, and also after its reconstruction Forum CPH was also home to an annual 6-day bicycle race until it moved to another location in the 1990s.

WOMEX Nighttime Venue

For the second year Copenhagen's high-profile venue, DR Koncerthuset, will host the WOMEX Night Showcases again. Prime sound quality was the distinguishing mark of last year's showcase production according to our delegates' feedback. The striking Jean Nouvel building will be accommodating all WOMEX stages under one roof.

The spectacular blue cube recently received the Wallpaper Design Award 2010 in the category "best new public house". The building consists of 4 halls with the main auditorium seating 1,800 people and is run by Danish Broadcasting (DR). It was inaugurated in January 2009 after a 6-year(!) construction period.
